On July 10th, the first school enterprise joint research and development center for polyvinyl chloride (PVC) polymerization process in China was unveiled at Shenyang Chemical Industry Co., Ltd. (Shenyang Chemical), which is also the first school enterprise joint research and development center in the PVC paste resin industry.


Shenyang Chemical is the earliest enterprise in China to have a production facility for 10000 ton grade paste resin, and has successfully put its independently developed new brand of paste resin into industrial production. At present, the production capacity of Shenyang Chemical's paste resin has reached 200000 tons per year, making it the largest producer of polyvinyl chloride paste resin in Asia and one of the leading enterprises in the domestic paste resin industry. While achieving a leading production scale, Shenyang Chemical has also taken the lead in building an independent research and development team in the industry, achieving industrialization of research and development results. Currently, the proportion of independently developed grades has exceeded 60%.


With the support and assistance of China National Chemical Corporation and Chlor Alkali Division, Shenyang Chemical Industry has reached a cooperation agreement with Beijing University of Chemical Technology this year to jointly establish a joint research and development center. The Joint R&D Center will leverage the close integration of industry, academia, and research to gather the advantageous resources of both parties, tackle key technical challenges in PVC paste resin, accelerate the pace of scientific and technological achievements in the field of PVC paste resin from laboratories to production lines, promote and accelerate the transformation and application of scientific and technological achievements, and further promote the upgrading and replacement of related industries in Liaoning Province and even the whole country, injecting new impetus into the economic development of Liaoning Province. At the same time, the joint research and development center will also provide an important practical platform for Liaoning Province to cultivate more high-end chemical talents, enhance Liaoning Province's scientific research capabilities and talent reserves in the field of chemical engineering, and provide strong intellectual support for local economic development.

On the platform of the Joint R&D Center, we can leverage the instruments, equipment, and research talent resources of Beijing University of Chemical Technology to solve a long-standing problem in the paste resin industry: the full cycle inspection and analysis of the paste resin product and its downstream terminal products, thereby promoting the development of new products and improving the application experience. Chen Shukang, Secretary of the Party Committee and General Manager of Shenyang Chemical Industry, stated in an interview that as the largest producer of polyvinyl chloride paste resin in Asia and one of the leading enterprises in the domestic paste resin industry, Shenyang Chemical Industry is striving to reshape its R&D system through "attracting foreign aid and strengthening internal strength", enhance its technological innovation capabilities, and help China's polyvinyl chloride paste resin industry explore the path of high-end, refined, and serialized development.



We provide instruments, equipment, researchers, and fair and impartial testing results, while companies also offer us rare opportunities from academia to application. Professor Ma Yuhong from the School of Materials Science and Engineering at Beihang University introduced that the university attaches great importance to the construction of a joint research and development center. In the future, he will regularly visit Shenyang Chemical Industry to teach basic theories and experience in the construction of university research and development systems to R&D personnel. He also hopes to apply the scientific research achievements of teachers and students to the production practice of paste resin and its downstream products, and help Shenyang Chemical Industry accelerate the research and application testing of high-end new grades.


Dr. Song Changtong, born in the 1990s, is the project leader of the Joint R&D Center. He graduated from Beihang University and is a high-end technical talent introduced by the Chlor Alkali Division for Shenyang Chemical Industry. In the laboratory, our focus is on academic research. Only when we reach out to enterprises can we have the opportunity to interact with downstream customers and more accurately determine the development direction of our products. "Having just worked here for two months, he has led and organized iterative research and development projects for major brands such as glove specific materials and chlorinated vinegar paste resin, and is currently organizing a team to develop differentiated and customized products based on specific customer needs. He hopes to lead the thinking transformation of Shenyang Chemical R&D personnel and completely reshape the Shenyang Chemical R&D system through the construction of a joint R&D center. He believes that in the future, the joint R&D center will play a greater role in promoting the acceleration of new product research and development, while providing integrated solutions for downstream customers of Shenyang Chemical and Paste Resin, helping to enhance the overall international competitiveness of industries such as Paste Resin, medical gloves, and automotive adhesives in China.
